Onyx is a banded variety of the oxide mineral chalcedony. Agate and Onyx are both varieties of layered chalcedony that differ only in the form of the bands ,  agate has curved bands and Onyx has parallel bands , the colour of Onyx  bands range from white to almost every colour imaginable but ours tend to range from mild yellow/orange tones to plainer white but this busy material can offer dramatic variation on occasions and viewing a sample before purchase is always advised to offer something of a representation of the stone although , as with all natural stone , it will not mean every tile will be identical to the sample provided .
